For many people the constant stress and turmoil over the past few years is starting to show up in the erosion of relationships with others. Those others may be co-workers, family, friends, spouses, business partners, in short anyone that as an individual you are interacting with.
To counteract the shift in those relationships that are important to you it is essential to begin to address personal behaviour and note where integrity or congruence are beginning to erode. An example may be identifying who are you avoiding because you no longer feel that person or persons are respectful and confident in their interactions with you. Further to that, check in with yourself and note where your own behaviour has been out of alignment with these same individuals. It may be that the people in question can still be counted on to be supportive and your own behaviour has shifted.
Having identified your own role in the relationship dynamic the question becomes what precipitated the change within you that caused the other rift to begin with. It may be that the issue of dependability came into question. You no longer felt the other parties were dependable and your own respect for those people began to erode.
To bring about the congruence enjoyed prior to a shift in self requires being open to learning from others. It also requires a degree of vulnerability. Re-establishing trust in our relationships requires an awareness of our own internal ways of addressing what appears to be problematic. From awareness we can develop or shift into focusing on the dependability and confidence in others again.
With confidence comes respect and with respect comes trust. Taking the time to focus on our internal congruence and to re-align ourselves with our core values gives rise to having our relationships in all areas of our lives become less stressful.
Be prepared to apologize when necessary. We are going to make mistakes – own it and indicate your desire to move forward.
