Bob Dylan wrote this song back in the early 1960’s and it was released sometime between 1961- 1963. The lyrics are as impactful today as they were back in the 60’s which were characterized by dramatic changes in countries and cultures.
This time period is also characterized by dramatic changes in work and culture. People are opting to work from home for periods of time and are literally refusing to go back to offices full time. Women are choosing to not return to the workforce in droves opting for self employment instead. The culture of consumerism is morphing into less is more.
Technological changes are booming with people taking the time to choose what works for them as opposed to getting the latest and best gadget just because. Some of the leading technology companies on the planet are finding that their hegemony is breaking down.
Governments in countries are being questioned for actions against ordinary citizens. Demonstrations by ordinary citizens around the globe are rising. People are demanding rights and freedoms of citizenry be honoured. The threat of the use of nuclear weapons and aggressive actions from one country on to another are being met with multi-national companies pulling out of business dealings with perpetrators of violence against another nation.
All of these areas point to an emerging new paradigm that is still developing. The base for the shift is solid in that change is being demanded for all people. The changes that are being advocated also signal a vivid change in the culture of governments around the world for a better quality of life for all whatever the political flavour may be. The democratic approach or the socialist approach or the communist approach or the religious state are all being taken to task to treat people fairly, and compassionately. Freedom from enforced restrictions is the focus of the revolution.
It will be interesting to see what areas come to light in this move for freedom and what the end result in terms of governance and world relationships will be.
All the best,
